Fusion Update

Jan 22, 2008

Last Tuesday (Jan 15) there was another hearing on the Oregon Fusion Bill (it was HB 3040 in 2007, but will soon have a new number) in the Elections and Ethics Committee chaired by Senator Kate Brown. Senator Monnis-Anderson was there as well.

More than 60 Oregonians showed up in support of the bill. Testimony began with comments by Senator Brad Avakian, the chief sponsor of the legislation for the ’08 session. Representatives of the Libertarian, Independent and Working Families Parties each spoke, as did some younger voters and experts. Senator Brown will schedule a formal hearing on the bill.

Below are some of the testimonies:

Ashlee Albies, young voter, Board Member of the Ballot Freedom Project
Richard Burke, Oregon Libertarian Party
Clare Crawford, Director of the National Open Ballot Project
Barbara Dudley, Co-Chair, Oregon Working Families Party
Andy Garfunkel, Town Clerk, Norwalk, CT
Jake Oliver, young voter
Sal Peralta, Oregon Independent Party
